Bonjour et Bienvenue à mon site web
Welcome to French class at Cambridge High School, home of the BEARS! My name is Madame LeClair-Ash and I am delighted to be a French teacher in an amazing World Language Department as well as a TAG (talented & gifted) teacher at Cambridge High School! On my website, you will find class updates, handouts and announcements for your level (French 1 & French 3 Honors) and for TAG seminars. If you need help, I am available by appointment before or after school or during lunch. Please schedule an appointment (in person or by email) at least 24 hours before you need to see me.
Why I teach French and why learning a 2nd language is important ...
It is a joy and creative outlet for me to share my passion of other cultures and languages with students. Knowing a second language is your "passport" to another culture and to a deeper understanding of our global world. My love of French took me to Normandy, France for a year to live with a French family. The following year, I returned to France on an internship program to work as a caretaker for mentally and physically handicapped adults. Shortly after, I moved from Wisconsin to Atlanta where I had the privilege of working during the 1996 Olympics Games. My duties during the Olympics involved serving as a hostess and interpreter for the delegation of the French-speaking African country of Cameroon as well as an interpreter at the Olympic Village medical center. These are some of the most rewarding experiences of my life! Through my travels and experiences, I have a greater understanding, appreciation and respect for other cultures. In turn, I have felt even more proud and humbled to be an American. As a daughter of a World War II Navy Veteran, I have been especially moved by the many tributes throughout France to the young American men and women who bravely fought for freedom on their soil. We are so fortunate to live in this wonderful country! In the global world that we live in, Americans need to have an open-mind and understanding of other cultures. In your journey to becoming bilingual and bicultural, you discover the best of both worlds and take with you amazing experiences and outlooks. You just might find, as I have, that you appreciate your own culture even more! Furthermore, an American who speaks a second language has an infinite number of opportunities.
